Traders weighed down by consumer laws - CAA lists offences

The Consumer Affairs Authority says that 50 traders who violated consumer laws have been nabbed.

Chairman of the CAA Rumi Marzook said that these raids were conducted in several areas of the island which included several supermarkets in Colombo, Kandy and Anuradhapura.

The Chairman said that these traders were charged with several offences including the sale of expired goods, selling goods not up to the required weight, not displaying the retail price, and selling goods above the retail price.

In addition, eight individuals who transported vegetables without the use of the requisite plastic containers have been taken in to custody.

The Chairman of the CAA further noted that 20 atapirikara which had not been manufactured to the required standards had been found.

These individuals are due to be produced before court.
