Interpol to probe allegations against Vaas ?

2013 Jun 22

The Opposition, while expressing doubts about on-going investigations regarding the senior DIG Vaas Gunawardana arrested on charges of murdering a businessman, yesterday (20) at the parliament insisted that the assistance of the Interpol may needed to maintain credibility of the investigations.

Chief Opposition Whip John Amaratunga, speaking during the second reading debate on the Defence Services Command and Staff College (Amendment) Bill, noted that the manner in which the DIG had been arrested raised suspicion.

He further stated that DIGs turning into contract killers is a serious issue.

However, in response United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA) parliamentarian Shantha Bandara stated that the government has no desire to hold back the investigations in connection to DIG Vaas Gunawardana.
