International schools to be regulated

Cabinet has approved a proposal to regulate International schools and private schools operating in the country, the governmenmt information department said today.

The proposal to regulate International schools and private schools operating in the countrymade was made by the Minister of Education Bandula Gunawardena.

The government says a number of International Schools are presently functioning in the country and they have been registered as business ventures under the Board of Investment or Companies Act.

“It has been found necessary to bring in amendments to existing rules and regulations for the effective functioning of the International Schools and Private Schools in keeping with the needs of the country,” the government said.

Cabinet approved the proposal to formulate a legal framework and a mechanism to regularize these schools to be in line with the national educational policies. (Colombo Gazette)
