LLRC submissions end on Monday

LLRC submissions end on Monday

2011 Jan 28

The Lessons Learnt and Reconciliation Commission (LLRC) yesterday said submissions would be accepted from the public only till January 31.

LLRC Coordinator, Lakshman Wickremasinghe said thereafter the commission would analyze the submissions within three months before May15, when the final report would be presented to the President.

“The LLRC will not accept submissions after the end of January unless the LLRC makes an exception,” Wickremasinghe said.

“We have made an exception for those who wish to make submissions in Ampara since we could not visit the area earlier due to floods. Therefore submissions in Ampara will be taken in mid February,” he said.

He said the commission would also try to accommodate till mid next month, those the commission felt were significant. He said some parties had stated that the commission was cutting off public hearing but the decision was made a few months ago due to time constraints.

“The LLRC has received thousands of written and verbal submissions since its inception, especially from its field visits and the commission would need time to analyze them individually,” he said.

He said the last field trip would be to the Anuradhapura district on January 29 at the Mahaweli Community Development Centre in Welioya. He said the commission would also make an observation tour to Welikanda and Palliyagodella in the Polonnaruwa district which were border villages that came under attack by the LTTE a number of times.

The LLRC started collecting submissions on August 11 last year.
