Attack on LankaeNews: Two more suspects arrested

Attack on LankaeNews: Two more suspects arrested

2011 Feb 12

The Boralesgamuwa Police yesterday arrested two suspects, Jayalath alia Boothaya and Nihal for the arson attack on the Lanka eNews website office at Malabe on Jan. 31 night.

Head of the Nugegoda Police Division Police SSP Deshabandu Tennekoon said they had been arrested in Beruwela.

Boothaya hails from Wellampitiya. Another suspect was arrested within 48 hours of the incident by the Talangama Police.

According to Police investigations two men who came in a luxury vehicle, first met Nihal and had showed him the LankaeNews website office. They had told him that it was a house where computer classes were being conducted and asked him to set the place on fire. They had promised to pay him for the attack.

Subsequently Nihal had contacted Boothaya, who got in touch with the suspect arrested immediately after the incident. Three of them had attacked the LankaeNews office, the police said.

According to the Police soon after the incident Boothaya had gone to Badulla, where he learnt through the media that the house they had set ablaze was not a computer class but a media institution. Subsequently, he had moved to Beruwela, where he was arrested.

The Police arrested Nihal on information provided by Boothaya. Both suspects were yesterday produced before the Kaduwela Magistrate, who remanded them till February 15.
